About George Chong
George Chong has more than 30 years' experience in corporate, banking and conveyancing matters. He has advised several public listed clients in corporate mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and property related transactions. His field of experience includes Islamic and conventional banking, offshore banking, private debt securities and IPO's. He has also acted for several public listed companies, multinational companies and property development companies.

Mergers & Acquisitions
  • Advised Urbansonic Sdn Bhd in acquisition of all the shares of Ecofirst Horizon Sdn. Bhd. ["EHSB"] (a subsidiary of Ecofirst Consolidated Berhad). EHSB is a special purpose company that holds several pieces of land in Damansara Damai which it purchased for RM70,000,000.
  • Advised Ancom Crop Care Sdn Bhd (a subsidiary of Ancom Nylex Berhad, a public listed company), on acquisition of 70% equity interest in H.J. Unkel Chemicals Sdn Bhd for a cash consideration of RM9,000,000.
  • Advised a subsidiary of a public listed company in acquisition of a 25% interest in a property development company for a consideration of around RM5,000,000.
  • Advised subsidiary of a public listed company in acquisition of 80% interest in a company and 100% of its subsidiary in the business of manufacturing, distribution, merchandising and selling of air fresh products for RM1,000,000.
  • Advising a subsidiary of a multi-national company in the acquisition of 100% interest in 2 companies who are in the business of building automation systems for a total purchase consideration of RM20,000,000.
  • Advising a subsidiary of a multi-national company in the acquisition of 100% interest in 2 companies who are in the business of electrical, mechanical, air-conditioning engineering and general contract work incidental to the above for a total purchase consideration of RM26,000,000.
  • Advising a sale of 100% shares of a real property company that owns industrial land with building worth approximately RM15,700,000.
Property
  • Acted for a subsidiary of a public listed multi-national company to acquire industrial land in Kota Elmina for approximately RM51,000,000.
  • Acted for and advised clients such as REIT’s and property funds for acquisition of assets and leasing of properties, notably the acquisition and lease-back by YTL Hospitality REIT of several well-known hotel and resort properties ( Pangkor Laut Resort, Cameron Highlands Resort and Tanjong Jara Resort, to name a few) worth in total about RM 832 million and the sale by Starhill Real Estate Investment Trust (now known as YTL Hospitality REIT) of 2 properties known as "Lot 10" and "Starhill Gallery" to Starhill Global Real Estate Investment Trust for a total purchase consideration of RM 1.03 billion.
  • Acted and advised Couture Homes Sdn. Bhd. for the sale of a shopping complex known as "Empire Subang" to Pelaburan Hartanah Berhad.
Banking
  • In Islamic finance, George Chong was one of the speakers presenting a paper on "Sukuk Mudharabah" for the Banking & Financial Law School pursuant to the Global Islamic Forum held on 27 March 2007.
  • Acted and advised Mammoth Empire Group in its sale of Wolo Hotel to HYM Group for RM115,000,000.
Capital Markets / Debt Capital Markets
  • Advised on several IPO's:-
    - Starhill Real Estate Investment Trust (now known as YTL Hospitality REIT)
    - Tower REIT
    - Samchem Holdings Berhad
    - Asia Media Group Berhad (including transfer from ACE Market to Main Board)
    - Voir Holdings Berhad (including transfer from ACE Market to Main Board)
    - Melati Ehsan Holdings Berhad (involving inter-alia, transfer of listing status of Omega Holdings Berhad)
    - Demerger of Tan Chong Group to 3 listed entities
  • Advised several debt capital market exercises, such as the RM 1.65 billion medium term notes programme by YTL Hospitality REIT and the RM 2 billion Medium Term Notes Programme by YTL Corporation Berhad.
